What do you do for fun when you're broke?
Submitted by Kim.
As a student, I'm very good at this.
I'll play computer games, read one of my books, write, work out, watch tv, go for a walk, listen to some music, crochet...
There's so many things to do that don't cost anything. (Thank goodness.)
Audio: What's your favorite carol or holiday song?
Jingle bells, Batman smells
Robin laid an egg
The Batmobile's
Lost its wheels
And ended up in a hedge
Yes, I am childish, silly, etcetera. I'm also quite partial to 'Ho Ho Fucking Ho' by Monty Python.
List five reasons (at least) why you are awesome.

1: I speak two languages fluently. I think that, if you can, you should speak more than just your own mother tongue. Even if it's just 'Je ne parle pas francais'. Language is an amazing thing.
2: I have a sense of humour. This ranges from the witty to the bizarre to the vulgar to the just plain silly. I've made jokes that people didn't get till a few minutes later. I've also made people wonder how the hell I can be attending university when I'm stupid enough to laugh at 'rude words', just because they're 'rude words'. I'm open to just about all humour, and I'm generally able to make people laugh.
3: I'm nice. If you don't do something that will make me dislike you for ever and ever (it has happened, but only ever rarely), I will most likely be nice to you. If you're one of my friends, I will most likely be absolutely lovely to you. Also, I've managed to find a way to be nice without being a complete doormat, which was quite difficult.
4: I'm very tolerant. I generally don't care about what gender you like, what you believe in, what you look like or where you're from. If you're an awesome person, those things don't matter because your inherent wonderfulness will shine through. The only thing I'm intolerant of is intolerance. And maybe chavs, but that's a matter of taste, not principles.
Yes, that's a joke. See point 2.
5: I sort of like myself. That's a fair bit, coming from me, because for a long time I thought I was a bit crap, or I felt indifferent towards myself but thought that others thought I was a bit crap. Now I think, well, I might be an acquired taste in some ways (some of my humour, for instance) but I don't think I'm an unpleasant person. I might be a bit too bookish for some people (bloody chavs again), a bit too silly for others, but I quite like my silly, bookish, flippant self. I'm the kind of person that I'd want to be friends with, and I think that's quite awesome.
For a full sit-down dinner with several guests, would you rather be the one cooking or do you prefer to just show up and eat?
I prefer to be the one cooking. I don't like just sitting there, having people do stuff without being able to help. It makes me feel lazy and useless.
Also, I just really enjoy cooking, especially for other people.
Do you have a regular workout routine? What's your favorite form of exercise?
I've just started running / walking again. I don't have a specific routine - I do what I can do, and what I feel like doing.
I can go whenever I feel like it, so long as I feel like it between 9 in the morning and 11 at night. The gym is down in the basement, a nice room with plenty of decent machines. When I head down it's usually deserted, leaving me free to be utterly uncharming as I walk and jog.
I try to head down to the gym daily. Obviously, it doesn't work when I'm visiting my parents, but other than that I try to at least walk a few kilometres. Today I was really tired from a long day - getting an early train from my parents' place to mine, then going to class, then doing the shopping, then doing dinner - but I still headed down. I had only done about half of what I usually do by the time my legs started hurting, but at least I did something. Hopefully I'll be able to do more tomorrow.
I'd like to pick up an actual sport again, but I don't think there's a place I could play squash here in Leiden other than one of the posh fraternity/sororities, and the only other sport I'm any good at is hockey. And yeah, I don't really fit in with the 'hockey' crowd, if you catch my drift.
For now, I'm just going to stick to my walking and jogging. It's a good way to get in shape and for me, personally, it's really practical.
What fictional creature do you wish were real?
There's no specific creature that I wish were real, but it would be awesome if animals could take on the ridiculously cute proportions you see in comics sometimes.
E.T.A.: Or, any of these. Sometimes, the world is so full of weird, bizzarre crap that I can't help but be ecstatic about the fact that I'm alive.
When did you last write/receive a handwritten, snail-mail letter? Who was it to/from?
Submitted by Places Unknown.
In the past 6 weeks I've received two postcards. This is because Leonore is lucky and gets to go on holiday a lot, and she also likes sending postcards to us poor people stuck in Dutchland.
Other than that, the only snail mail I get is trying to sell me stuff, or just boring old bills.
What does your name mean and why did your parents choose it for you?
Submitted by mommy2two.
My surname is Clarke, because at one point one of my ancestors learned to write and got a job doing it. Writing, that is. Lots and lots of it. Either that or they were in some kind of religious order.
My first name is Leah. My mum chose this, because she thought the name was pretty (and I agree, I love my name) and because it's not one you see every day, unlike my surname. Clarke (or Clark) is one of the most common names in England.
My second name is Kimberly, because my dad has a strange sense of humour and decided that I would be much more memorable if my name contained the brand name Kimberly Clark, famous for making toilet roll dispensers and suchlike.
We actually have Kimberly Clark toilet roll dispensers at the toilets at uni. When we were still going out, Marijn told me the following:
"I love going to the toilet here because whenever I use the toilet paper it reminds me of you."
Oh, young love.
When was the last time you made a drastic change to your personal style (i.e., wardrobe, hairstyle, etc.)? What did you do?

About three months ago I went to my hairdresser's. He's usually absolutely wonderful, able to work with curls properly. Unfortunately, I wasn't very clear in what I wanted last time I went - when i say 'bob', I'm thinking of something that isn't ridiculously short up back. My hairdresser did, unfortunately.
Luckily my hair grows back pretty quickly, and this hair disaster has finally motivated me to grow my hair long again.
Do you have a pet? What kind of pet do you own, and why did you choose it?
Submitted by Brendz.
I desperately want a pet, but it's just not possible right now. Even if I was allowed to keep pets where I live, I don't have enough time to give an animal the love and attention it deserves. Once I'm done with Uni and I've found a place to settle down, I'll probably get a pet. But until then, I'll have to do without.
